Q and A Session With Dr. Stevo

Question: Where are you from Dr. Stevo?

I was born and raised in Chicago on the South Side of town. It was a great place to grow up because of my friends, family, and all the things to do.

Question: What were some of your favorite things to do as a kid?

I loved to play video games, watch cartoons, read my mother’s encyclopedia set, hang out with friends, and most of all play basketball.

Question: Did you ever write stories back then?

No, but I always imagined creating stories that would make good books, cartoons, and even movies. I never thought I would really be doing that one day, though.

Question: What were some of your favorite stories and cartoons when you were young?

My favorite cartoons were Conan the Adventurer, The Real Ghostbusters, and Dungeons and Dragons. My favorite books were anything written by Disney. I also loved the stories in video games like the Zelda series.

Question: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Originally, I wanted to be a pharmacist. I was an adventurous and mischievous kid, and was always hurt, so I would go to the doctor often. Seeing the pharmacist give people medicine to help them feel better looked great. Keeping with those ideas, I guess I hope the things I create and teach now help people.

Question: What is your favorite food?

I love a good sandwich. My favorite ones include Philly Cheesesteaks and New York hoagies with everything. San Diego-style fish tacos are the best, too!

Question: What made you write these books?

Many people complement our family, and they often wonder how we came to be. So, I answered those questions by telling the world all about our culture, history, food, and wacky adventures in hopes that the things you find in my books might inspire you all, too!

Question: Is there anything you want to tell your readers?

Try to find out who you really are, what you do well, and what kind of activities bring you joy. Once you do, try to find a career that matches those things. Also, it’s never too late to pursue something new!
